Frequently asked questions

Why the waits in between moves?

A body is like a  computer.  When you give a computer a command, it has to analyze the command and then complete the action.  If you push enter ten times, the computer will most likely freeze and not finish the task.  The waits between the moves give the body time to process the exact action before continuing on to the next command.  Therefore, giving a better response.

Is Bowenwork right for me?

The Bowen technique is so gentle that it is appropriate for everyone from infancy to the elderly. If you have chronic or acute musculoskeletal pain, postural issues, stress or stiffness, Bowenwork may be the treatment for you.

What should I do to prepare for my appointment?

the client should not have any other bodywork for 4 days prior to a bowenwork session.

What should I expect during a Bowenwork appointment?

The first session will include a consult and evaluation of specific complaints.

Bowenwork can be performed on skin, however, light clothing can be worn such as light t-shirt or tank top and light weight shorts or pants. (jeans are not the best)

Facilities are available to change if needed.

The first session may last 1.5 hours including the consultation.  The client will lie on a massage table. The first set of moves will be performed and then between each set of moves there will be a mandatory "Wait" of at least 2 minutes.  This wait allows the client's body to receive the command and begin to process.

What should I expect the following week after the appointment?

Avoid all forms of bodywork including massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, energy work, magnets, etc... for 5-7 days.

Drink lots of water (2-3 quarts per day, spaced evenly throughout the day)

No heating pads or ice packs

Take a walk each day to help integrate the changes that are being made by your body. Especially directly after lower back pain or pelvic procedure, walking is very important. After the treatment, do not sit for more that 30 minutes at a time without getting up to move around.

You may feel subtle changes such as a tingling sensations. You may have a more profound change.  Bowenwork is at the height of its performance around the third day post treatment. By the seventh to tenth day, another treatment should be performed to set the body and start a new set of commands to continue the good work that your body is generating.

When should I follow up?

Return in 7-10 days to stabilize the new patterns initiated by the first session and build on the progress.

Once your condition has resolved, you may choose to schedule the occasional appointment to maintain the progress that you have achieved. This will become a longer and longer amount of time between each session as your body responds to the sessions.

If the condition is chronic (long-term problem) you may need more sessions over an extended amount of time.
